Code of Conduct
This section specifies the behavioral expectations and consequences related to the use of YCS technology, focusing on ethical and legal conduct.
- Illegal Activities:
- Users must not attempt unauthorized access to systems, accounts, or files; disrupt system performance; spread viruses; or engage in illegal acts (e.g., drug sales, gang activity, or threats).
- Bypassing Internet filters to access inappropriate material is prohibited.
- Inappropriate Language and Material:
- Users must not use obscene, profane, threatening, or disrespectful language, nor engage in personal attacks or harassment.
- Posting damaging, disruptive, false, or defamatory information is forbidden.
- Accessing profane, obscene, or harmful material (e.g., pornography, content advocating violence or discrimination) is prohibited unless under approved and supervised research conditions. Inadvertent access must be reported immediately to a teacher or administrator.
- Plagiarism and Copyright Infringement:
- Users must not present others’ ideas or writings as their own or violate copyright laws.
- Downloading or installing copyrighted software on school computers is not allowed, and inappropriate content must be reported.
- Search and Seizure:
- Student emails, files, and online activity records on the YCS network are subject to review at any time. Routine maintenance or monitoring may uncover policy violations.
- If a violation is suspected, an investigation will be conducted, and YCS will cooperate with legal authorities if necessary, which may lead to criminal prosecution.
- Consequences of Misuse:
- Inappropriate use will result in loss of privileges, suspension, expulsion, or legal action, including restitution for damages to the system.
- Users have no privacy expectation for personal files or emails on the district system, and messages supporting illegal activities must be reported.
- Disciplinary actions will be tailored to the violation, with notice and an opportunity to be heard provided as per the student discipline policy.
- Parental Notification and Responsibility:
- Parents or guardians must sign the Internet Contract to allow their child’s access and can request alternative activities or termination of access privileges.
- The district is not responsible for service quality, claims, losses, or damages from network use, nor for the accuracy of information obtained. Users bear any additional costs incurred.
- Statements on the network or Internet reflect individual views, not those of YCS or its affiliates.
