Acceptable Use Guidelines
1. Acceptable Use Guidelines
This section outlines the purpose of providing Internet access to students and the general expectations for its use within Ypsilanti Community Schools.
- Purpose of Internet Access: Internet access is provided to students to enhance educational opportunities. It connects millions of computers worldwide, offering vast, diverse resources to improve learning through research, collaboration, communication, and access to innovative educational practices and materials.
- Scope of Policy: This Acceptable Use Policy applies to anyone using YCS computers, Internet, email, chat rooms, or other electronic communication tools (collectively referred to as the "network"). The policy aims to prevent unauthorized access, unlawful activities, and unauthorized disclosure of sensitive information while complying with the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA)
- Technology Protection Measures: The district employs filters to block access to obscene, pornographic, or harmful content to the extent practicable. However, the district reserves the right to monitor online activities, access, review, copy, store, or delete any electronic communications or files, and disclose them as necessary. Users should have no expectation of privacy when using district property, network, or Internet, including email.
- User Agreement: By signing the policy, users and their parents/guardians acknowledge reading and agreeing to the terms and conditions, which are legally binding. Internet use is a privilege, not a right, and inappropriate use can lead to cancellation of privileges or other disciplinary actions.
