Michigan Learning Channel - February 2021

  • On Wednesday at 5:00 p.m., celebrate Black History Month with PBS Books and ASALH as they host a virtual conversation with Dr. Mae Jemison. During the interview, Dr. Jemison will discuss her newly re-released memoir, Finding Where the Wind Goes, sharing the experiences that have identified her as a trailblazer in outer space, and in life.  Watch it live on the PBS Books Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/PBSBooks1/live/.

  • On Thursday evening, February 4th , at 7:00 p.m., the Kresge Foundation, School Readiness Consulting and Detroit Public Television will be presenting a special virtual professional development webinar on health and safety for early childhood center operators and staff. “Surviving and Recovering from an Epidemic” will be led by the Henry Ford Health System, IFF, and the State of Michigan. Two dynamic child center owners from Detroit will inspire you with their stories of how they adapted to serve families during the pandemic, while Larry Horvath, the Director of LARA, will review the latest information about regulations and state help for center operators.  Register for the Zoom webinar here (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/preparing-for-and-recovering-from-epidemics-webinar-tickets-136510828563?aff=erelexpmlt).

Also on Thursday, the MLC will be announcing a “Heart Healthy February” campaign featuring the InPACT videos we are airing on the channel.   More details to come!

Finally, the preliminary March schedule for the MLC is attached.   It still has some holes that need filling, but the key focus of the month with be READING, in conjunction with National Reading Month. Programming will include episodes of “Reading Rockets”, “The Great American Read”, and the PBS Special from last fall’s Library of Congress book celebration.
