Letter to Our Parents
Dear YCMS Families,
I hope this letter finds you well. As we approach the final weeks of the school year, I want to share several important updates and reminders with you.
We have 15 full school days remaining, along with three half days on May 23, June 5, and June 6 (which is also the last day of school). Please note that there will be no school on Monday, May 26 in observance of Memorial Day.
We ask that you work closely with your child this week to ensure that all missing assignments are completed and submitted. It is crucial that students finish the year strong.
For our 8th grade students, the last day of school will be Friday, May 30. Their Promotion Ceremony will take place that same day from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., followed immediately by the 8th Grade Dance. Both events will be held here at YCMS, and we look forward to celebrating this important milestone with our students and families.
A few additional upcoming events and reminders:
Talent Show Auditions will be held Monday, May 19 after school. The Talent Show will take place on Wednesday, May 21.
7th Grade In-School Field Trip is scheduled for Thursday, May 15, and students will visit the University of Michigan on Friday, May 16. Please make sure permission slips are signed and returned.
Our Choir Concert is this Thursday, May 15 at 1:00 p.m. Parents are welcome to attend. Please be mindful of limited parking and avoid tow-away zones.
On Thursday, May 22, the Traveling Sound Museum will visit YCMS.
The National Junior Honor Society Induction Ceremony will take place on Monday, May 19. Invitations will be sent home with students who are being inducted—congratulations to all honorees!
Unfortunately, we have had nearly 40 Chromebooks damaged recently due to a dangerous TikTok challenge involving placing metal objects into computer input slots, causing smoke and electrical hazards. Please speak with your child about the dangers of participating in social media challenges and remind them that no additional Chromebooks will be issued this late in the school year.
As the weather warms up, please help us maintain a respectful and distraction-free learning environment by reviewing the dress code with your child. The following items are not permitted at school:
Pajama pants, short shorts, biker shorts, mini skirts
Spaghetti straps, tank tops, crop tops
Ski masks, bonnets, do-rags, slippers, or hoodies
Refer to the Code of Conduct for full dress code guidelines.
Please check your child’s grades on PowerSchool tonight and ensure they are on track to pass all classes. If your child is struggling, after-school tutoring is available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
Lastly, please remind your child that riding the school bus is a privilege, not a right. All buses are equipped with cameras and microphones, and all behavior is recorded for student safety.
Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting your child’s education. Let’s finish the school year strong and make the most of these final weeks!
Sincerely,
Mr. Charles A. Davis Jr.
Principal
