Charles A. Davis Jr, Principal

Dear Ypsilanti Community Middle School Students and Parents,

I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. I am writing to introduce myself as the newly appointed principal of Ypsilanti Community Middle School. It is with great enthusiasm and a strong sense of responsibility that I join your esteemed educational institution, effective July 31, 2023.

Allow me to provide you with a brief overview of my professional background. I bring with me a wealth of experience spanning 29 years at all levels of K-12 education. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of serving in various capacities, which have helped shape my educational philosophy and leadership approach. Most recently, I served as the principal of ACCE High School, where I have honed my skills in fostering a positive learning environment and promoting student achievement.

Over the years, I have developed a deep commitment to providing a well-rounded education to students through a multifaceted approach that considers their academic, social, and emotional growth. I firmly believe that each student has unique talents and abilities, and it is our duty as educators to nurture and cultivate those talents, ensuring their holistic development.

Building strong relationships with students, staff, parents, and the wider community has always been a priority for me. I value open and transparent communication, collaboration, and a shared vision for creating a positive school culture. By promoting a sense of belonging, fostering mutual respect, and encouraging an inclusive environment, we can work together to achieve academic excellence and provide opportunities for personal growth.

As I prepare to assume my role as principal of Ypsilanti Community Middle School, I am eager to meet and collaborate with each of you to continue the school's tradition of excellence. While I am aware of the challenges we may face in our educational journey, I am confident that together, as a dedicated team, we can overcome them and create a thriving learning community.

In the coming weeks, I look forward to meeting you personally during our Back to School Bash on August 19th, open house, and various school events. I am eager to listen to your insights, ideas, and concerns as we strive to provide an outstanding educational experience for all Ypsilanti Community Middle School students.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or require any support. You can reach me at 734-635-7719 cell or via email at.

I am genuinely excited about this opportunity to serve as your principal and be a part of Ypsilanti Community Middle School's journey towards excellence. Together, I am confident that we can make a positive impact on the lives of our students and inspire greatness within our school community.

Thank you for your warm welcome, and I eagerly await the chance to work alongside each of you.

Nina Harris, Associate Principal

Principal HarrisI have served YCS since 2013 in many different roles and absolutely love our district. Although I have worked at every grade level, both in YCS and other districts, Middle School is my favorite grade level to work with. I love the energy and passion that preteens have for everything in life.

I have lived in Michigan for most of my life, except for 10 years when I was in Virginia teaching. I love Michigan weather, crazy as it is and all the great places it has to explore. When I am not working, I enjoy traveling, gardening and crafting amazing decorations and gifts. My favorite place that I have traveled is the Hebrides in Scotland, this was a once in a lifetime experience and allowed me to explore more of the country that my dad was from.

My role at YCMS is as a co-principal and my focus is on Instructional Infrastructure. his is working with our staff on implementing and supporting a vision of high quality, ambitious instruction that impacts student and teacher performance. I work to disrupt practices that are not working and create new structures that ensure success for all students. If you ever have any concerns about the content or instruction in a classroom I would be happy to discuss it with you. Additionally, I support our Special Education program at YCMS, ensuring that our students with special needs are receiving the appropriate services and are in the correct classroom settings.
