Dear Parents and Guardians of Ypsilanti Community Middle School,
As I enter my third year as the proud principal of Ypsilanti Community Middle School—and my 32nd year in education—I remain deeply committed to creating a safe, caring, and supportive learning environment where our scholars are expected to demonstrate excellence every day. It is truly an honor to serve this community and to partner with you in the academic and personal growth of your children.
At YCMS, our work is grounded in the ABC’s of Excellence:

We believe that through rigorous instruction, positive school culture, and a curriculum that prepares students to think critically and engage as global citizens, our scholars will be well-equipped for success in high school, college, career, and beyond.
We are excited to share that YCMS continues to grow as a school of innovation and opportunity. With the support of our federal Magnet School grant, we are strengthening our academic pathways and expanding programs that fuel student curiosity and achievement. Additionally, we are proud to be in the candidacy stage for International Baccalaureate (IB) authorization, a framework that emphasizes inquiry, global-mindedness, and high-quality teaching and learning.
Our school offers one of the most comprehensive middle school experiences in the region, including:
Thirteen athletic teams that encourage teamwork, leadership, and healthy competition
Twenty-four student clubs and organizations
Band, Choir, STEM, Art, Technology, Physical Education, Spanish, and Health
An Innovation Center and Maker Space, where scholars use emerging technologies to design, create, and invent for the future
A 1,000-seat auditorium that hosts musicals, plays, and performances
An 8-lane swimming pool used for competitive swim seasons
Two full gymnasiums supporting physical education and athletic events
Most importantly, YCMS is fully staffed with dedicated, caring, and highly skilled educators who are united in their commitment to excellence and to the success of every scholar.
