Beautiful Luxe School of Cosmetology
Cosmetology Program Information:
CTE Cosmetology is a two-year program that instructs students in the theory and practical skills necessary to prepare them for a career in the cosmetology field. Students are provided with up-to-date, hands-on training geared toward preparing students to become highly employable through their incorporation of knowledge and experience. Students will have opportunities in such roles as cosmetologists, nail technicians, make-up artists, hair stylists, salon managers, and small business owners. As part of the required 1,500 hours of instruction over a two-year period, students are provided with clinical experiences in addition to the opportunity to take the state board PSI Examination for theory and practical. Upon passing state boards, the student can then apply for their Michigan State Cosmetology License.
This class is an introduction and participation class in basic service performed by a cosmetologist. This lecture/lab class is closely supervised in the introduction and practice of shampooing, draping, hair analysis, hair treatment, nail care, haircutting, wet styling, thermal styling, permanent waving, chemical relaxing, hair coloring, skin care, and hair removal services. Basic anatomy and physiology, hair structure, skin structure, nail structure, and analysis will be included in the class. Emphasis will be placed on salon safety measures, sanitation, and infection control. Students will practice on mannequins, models, and each other.

Instructor: Aisha Gatlin
A proud Ypsilanti native, Aisha is the founder of Beautiful Luxe School of Cosmetology—the first Black-owned cosmetology school founded in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The school offers programs in cosmetology, natural hair care, manicuring, and instructor training, with an emphasis on diversity, entrepreneurship, and leadership. Gatlin’s work has earned national media recognition and a Congressional Record of achievement, underscoring her impact in making the beauty industry more inclusive and empowering future professionals.
