Automotive Technology

The Automotive Technology program is an ASE-accredited Career and Technical Education (CTE) program that prepares students for entry-level employment and postsecondary training in the automotive service industry. The program follows the state-approved ASE Maintenance and Light Repair (MLR) curriculum and emphasizes the technical knowledge, hands-on skills, and professional work habits expected of today’s automotive technicians.

Over the course of this two-year program, students receive instruction in:

  • Personal and shop safety

  • Shop operations and procedures

  • Proper use and care of automotive tools and equipment

  • Basic engine fundamentals and technician skills

  • Automotive electrical systems

  • Engine performance (tune-up)

  • Steering and suspension systems

  • Wheel alignment

  • Brake systems

  • Preventive maintenance and light repair procedures

Instruction is delivered through a combination of classroom and laboratory experiences, with approximately 35% classroom instruction and 65% hands-on laboratory training in a fully equipped automotive shop.

Students who successfully complete the program and pass the ASE Student Certification examination may earn the ASE Maintenance and Light Repair (MLR) Student Certification, preparing them for entry-level employment as automotive maintenance and light repair technicians or for continued education in automotive technology.

Work-Based Learning

Eligible students may participate in Work-Based Learning (WBL) experiences with local automotive businesses. These supervised placements provide students with opportunities to apply classroom knowledge in authentic work settings, develop employability skills, build professional relationships, and gain valuable industry experience before graduation.
