Radio, Podcasting, & TV Broadcasting
Ypsilanti Community High School’s Radio, Podcasting & TV Broadcasting program is a hands-on Career & Technical Education experience designed for students interested in podcasting, television, filmmaking, journalism, social media, audio production, and digital content creation.
Students do more than learn about media, they also produce it. Students develop ideas, write scripts, conduct interviews, operate professional cameras and audio equipment, record podcasts and video content, and edit projects using industry-standard software including Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro. Students work independently and in production teams while developing the creative, technical, communication, and professional skills expected in today’s media industry.
Students also gain real-world production experience by contributing to YCHS Broadcast News, school morning announcements, podcasts, social media content, promotional videos, sports and event coverage, interviews, short films, and other projects created for public audiences.
Previous students have participated in school and district productions, community events, interviews with visiting professionals, promotional projects, and content produced for Ypsilanti Community Schools' digital platforms. As the program continues to grow, students will have opportunities to participate in Work-Based Learning, industry partnerships, competitions, internships, community productions, and professional-style media assignments.
Upon completion of this course, students will have working knowledge of:

Work-Based Learning & Professional Opportunities
The program is designed to connect classroom instruction with authentic media-production experiences.
Students have previously participated in media coverage and production opportunities involving Ypsilanti Community Schools events, district initiatives, community programming, interviews with visiting professionals and organizational partners, promotional productions, athletic and school events, and content intended for district and school social media audiences.
As the program continues to expand, students will have opportunities to pursue additional Work-Based Learning experiences, industry partnerships, competitions, job-shadowing, internships, community productions, freelance-style assignments, and collaborations with organizations that need photography, video, podcasting, broadcasting, and social media production services.
Students are also expected to participate in approved after-school event coverage throughout the school year, giving them additional experience working in live, deadline-driven production environments.
Corey Houser, CTE Instructor
Mr. Corey Houser is a media professional with a background in filmmaking, podcast production, and digital storytelling. He brings years of experience in content development, blending industry know-how with a passion for creativity. In the classroom, Corey focuses on helping students find their unique voice and use modern tools to amplify it, whether through a podcast episode, a video segment, or a visual campaign. His teaching style prioritizes authenticity, innovation, and real-world application.
