Families Enjoyed Free Dinner and Summer Reading at our Community Event

On July 10, 2026, families from across the community gathered for a fun-filled evening of food, literacy, and recreation during a free family event hosted by Ypsilanti Community Schools.

The evening began at 4:00 p.m. with a free family dinner provided through the Meet Up Eat Up program. Families enjoyed sharing a meal together while connecting with community partners.

Representatives from the Ypsilanti District Library and Our Community Reads were on hand to promote summer literacy. Children and their families explored summer reading materials, participated in interactive group reading activities, and enjoyed engaging literacy experiences designed for learners of all ages. Books were given away during the event. This continues the tradition of giving scholars books to create their own home libraries. Ypsilanti Community Schools will continue to give books away during the school year and through their book vending machines.

Thanks to the Michigan Learning Channel, families also received free summer learning workbooks while supplies lasted, providing additional opportunities to continue learning throughout the summer.

The event brought families together for an evening focused on literacy, wellness, and community engagement, helping students stay active and inspired throughout the summer months.
