Estabrook Media Center
Hello, my name is Miss Ashley, I am the Media Specialist at Estabrook Elementary.
"In our library, we keep things simple but impactful. My main goals are to:
Spark a Joy for Reading: By filling our shelves with books that students actually want to dive into.
Build Connections: I love getting to know our students, whether they are part of the Junior Librarian program or just stopping by to browse.
Mix Tech with Creativity: We use new tools and creative projects to make reading more exciting than ever.
Reach New Milestones: Through our Beanstack Reading Challenges, we’re encouraging students to grow their reading habits, one minute at a time!"
Books on Books on Books:
Within the library has a vast collection of books and various media available for students, staff and the Estabrook Community. Our collection of Fiction books range from Graphic Novels (Bad Guys, Babysitters Club, Avatar) to Fantasy (Harry Potter, Ronald Dahl & Wings of Fire) and Humor (Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Judy Moody and Captain Underpants) books. For students who love to know about any and everything, our Non-fiction collection has books and information on the different cultural celebrations to learning about the American Revolution and farm animals. You're never too old to read a Picture Book! Come check out books written by Mo Wilems, Jacquline Woods
Junior Librarian Program:
In Spring 2024, we launched our Junior Librarians program for students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. This hands-on program gives our older students a chance to see how the library works behind the scenes. They learn everything from how to use library tech to organizing our book collections, and they even get to lead story time for our younger students!
March is Reading Month:
Every year during the month of March, we celebrate March is Reading Month with our One School One Book (OSOB) program. During this special event, every student and staff member reads the same book together, creating a shared experience that promotes literacy, curiosity, and a love of reading throughout our school community.
Beanstack Reading Challenges:
Every month during the school year students have the opportunity to compete in reading challenges on Beanstack. Beanstack is a web-based and mobile app platform designed for libraries and schools to create, manage, and track reading challenges, such as summer reading programs. It fosters a reading culture through gamification, allowing users to log reading minutes, earn badges, and win prizes. After each monthly challenge the top reading students will receive recognition during the monthly assembly and the top prize.
