Revised Press Release
Ypsilanti Community Schools
August 14, 2019
Ypsilanti Community Schools, in conjunction with the Board of education, community members, staff, and upon reviewing the recommendations by national consultants that were hired to study the entire transportation operation, made the decision to bring the transportation department in-house. Thank you for joining us as we welcome our dedicated transportation staff back to YCS as district employees. We are currently seeking a highly qualified Transportation Director to lead this vital department. Thank you for your patience as we work to transition this department back to the Grizzly family!
Bell times have been established to ensure no bus trip is longer than one hour for students and allows for an efficient and cost-effective transportation department. In order for students to be eligible for transportation services, they must reside one mile or more from their home school. The maximum walk distance to a bus stop is .25 miles.
The bell times for 2019-20 will be:

Student transportation will be based on home school attendance boundaries. Families that elect to continue utilizing schools of choice (Erickson, Holmes, Estabrook) will be offered a transfer bus that will transfer their child from their home school to/from their in-district school of choice.
Transfer buses will provide students with color-coded tags that will attach to their clothing or backpack to indicate which transfer bus they will ride. Staff will be provided to assist and ensure students ride the correct transfer bus in the morning. The same service will be provided in the afternoon. This will greatly reduce ride times and will only impact Estabrook, Erickson, and Holmes students. Perry, Ford, Beatty, Ypsilanti International Elementary School (YIES), middle school, and high school students will continue with direct routing from the same bus stop to/from the school of attendance.
