Congratulations Ms. Abigail VanBuhler! From Bright Futures

Congratulations to Ford Early Learning Center Bright Futures Site Coordinator Ms. Abigail VanBuhler on being named a PBS Digital All-Star for 2020!

Here is the link to the PBS page with information on the award: http://www.pbs.org/education/digitalinnovators/class-of-2020 This national program will begin a two-year partnership and learning journey for Ms. VanBuhler.
Ms. Van Buhler shares "I am excited to continue my partnership with PBS and I look forward to seeing how this opportunity will positively impact the youth and families we serve here at Ford! My partnership with Detroit PBS TV began last year when during our intercession breaks, Bright Futures @ Ford hosted PBS STEM camps for our youth (Ruff Ruffman, Ready Set Learn). Last summer the theme of our program was Ready Jet Go and our PBS station sponsored a science themed snack for youth every day of the program!"
Bravo!  Bravo!  We are so proud of you!  We are so fortunate to have you as a colleague!

Exciting News Out of Mrs. Shier's Kindergarten Class at Perry ELC

Ms. Shier was awarded a $1000 Education Assistance Product Voucher through the Keep Kids Learning program through Donors Choose. She was able to create Student Distance Learning Care Packages for all of my kindergarten students. The care packages included books, a journal, a pencil case filled with supplies, a dry erase board, toothbrushes, toothpaste and much more. They were very excited to receive their care packages. I have included some pictures below.

Tanya Tassin, Music Teacher at Perry ELC

She had a Donors Choose project that was funded in the fall. Because of that, combined with Perry's free and reduced lunch status, Donors Choose offered her the opportunity to apply for a $1000 grant for supplies for students at home to assist with learning during the pandemic. She received the grant and since she is a  music teacher and the students didn't really need distance learning materials for her class, she split the $1000 between 4 classroom teachers at Perry. Chip Bennett, Debra Stevens, Pat Belvins, and Carrie Jones were all able to spend $250 in materials that they will deliver to their classroom.
