YCS Back to School Options
This school year will be different than any of us have ever experienced or anticipated. We are dedicated to keeping your children safe and giving them the best possible opportunity for school. The first day of school for students is Tuesday, September 8th. Please take a few minutes to fill out the attached enrollment form and let us know your preference by completing the linked survey for returning to school.
Here are the 3 options:
In-Person (face to face instruction):
A traditional approach to school. Students will physically attend a school and meet with their teacher(s) face to face. Students attending Transitional Kindergarten through 5th grade will meet 4 Days per week of in-person learning and 1 day a week of remote learning. In grades 6 through 12, students will meet 2 days per week in-person and 3 days per week of remote learning. There is no in-person option for preschool at this time. Classes will be limited to 15 students in each class. Only certain schools will be open, and students may have to attend a school that is not their 'neighborhood' school.
Remote (via Chromebook or Ipad):
Students will start the school year with online instruction. Students will receive online instruction altogether (synchronous) sometimes and do work on their own using a Chromebook or Ipad (asynchronous) at other times. When it is safe, students will transition back to in-person learning. We will be making decisions about returning to in-person the first week in November.
Online 100% (via Chromebook or Ipad):
Students will spend the entire year working online (asynchronous) and not in a school setting. Students will check in twice a day (once in the a.m. and again in the pm). Teachers will be available for the entire school day to assist students. Students that select 'Online' will not transition back to a school this year. This is a full-year commitment to Online school. The advantage of Online instruction is that students have the flexibility to do school work on their schedule. Another advantage is that students who are autoimmune compromised can still take YCS classes by YCS teachers safely.
Criteria for In-Person Instruction:
The following criteria will be considered when selecting students for the “In-Person” (face to face) instruction. Students will be evaluated case-by-case, and parent requests will be considered:
- If the student has been identified as being academically behind at least 1.5 years or more
- If the student needs access to food security
- If the student is homeless
- If the student has an IEP or 504 Plan and does not have pre-determined health conditions that put the student at-risk of contracting COVID-19
- If the student is identified as an English Learner
- If the student needs access to supervision during school hours
- If the student needs access to additional support services
You will be notified by email on or about August 21st of your child(s) assignment.
