Ypsilanti Community Schools would like to thank everyone who came out to the YCS Flu Clinic on Saturday, October 10th. The Ann Arbor Pharmacy gave out over 100 flu vaccinations along with first aid kits and multivitamins. It is essential to make sure our students, staff, and families stay healthy this year!
We would also like to thank the pharmacy, volunteers, and community supporters that came out to help! The Ypsilanti District Library handed out fun reading materials, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc registered citizens to vote, and Food Gatherers handed out food boxes
YCS Backpack and Supply Distribution
Last week YCS gave out backpacks, curriculum materials, school supplies, and food boxes to students grades PK-12. If you were unable to get materials, please contact your building principal for assistance. In the next few weeks, there will be another opportunity to pick up additional materials more specifically for high school students.
YCS Food Delivery
Ypsilanti Community Schools will now provide Grab and Go Food Delivery on Friday’s beginning October 9th through December 2020*. Families can go to a bus route nearest their home to pick up 7 days worth of breakfast and lunch for each student in their household. Food distribution sites will still remain at ACCE, Erickson, Holmes, Perry at YCHS. All sites are free for any child under the age of 18 or under 26 with special needs. Ypsilanti Community High School Athletic Department has laid out the new guidelines for high school athletics on their website at www.ypsigrizzlies.com.
YCS 2020 Football Season Policies and Procedures
All individuals, excluding game officials, must wear a face covering at all times during the entirety of the game, which includes on-field players, substitutes, coaches, game workers/management, auxiliary or support personnel, medical personnel, media members, and spectators. School personnel, not contest officials, are responsible for face-covering compliance.
All football games, home and away, two spectators per student-athlete, and participants (coaches, staff, etc.) will be allowed. Spectators must RSVP at least 24 hours before an event and place on a list provided by the YCS Athletic Department. Spectators must RSVP to enter into the game--no exceptions.
The cost for attendance at home games will be $5 per adult and $3 for senior citizens and children under 11 years old. Admission can be paid at the entry/gate.
The Ypsilanti Community Schools Athletic Department must approve any live streaming of the game. Any unauthorized streaming of game content could result in the deletion of video or other penalties.
PRE SCREENING FOR ALL PLAYERS, VOLUNTEERS, SPECTATORS, AND EMPLOYEES:
- All student-athletes and coaches will perform pre-screening with the MHSAA COVID Prevention Sheet before all practice and contest. Spectators and staff should pre-screen themselves and guests for symptoms before coming to facilities with the questions below. If the answer is yes to any of the questions, the spectators should not attend an event:
- Have you or the child been in close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19?
- Are you or the child experiencing a cough, shortness of breath, or sore throat?
- Have you or the child had a fever in the last 48 hours?
- Have you or the child experienced a new loss of taste or smell?
- Have you or the child experienced vomiting or diarrhea in the last 24 hours?
- Screen for a fever - Temperature should not exceed 100.3:

Friday Independent Student Work Project-Based Learning
Students will respond to the equity prompts and questions, participate in equity panels, listen to monthly speakers, create PSA short videos, work with other youth around topics cultural differences that will allow them to do a quick write as well as create a 2 to 5-minute video clip that will be placed in the Stories from our YCS Freedom Dreamers website that will be created from the various projects. For others to learn about their greatness.

October is GLOW season in Ypsilanti, and WonderFool Productions is partnering with the community in creating this year’s ypsiGLOW celebration with light-filled, unexpected public art experiences culminating on Friday, October 23, 2020. In its fifth year of creating magic and wonder, ypsiGLOW 2020 is reimagined with an array of FREE creative experiences for people of all ages and corners of the community to GLOW in town or GLOW at home--wherever YOU want to shine your light! This year’s plans are designed with social distancing, timing and dispersed locations, with masks required for safe GLOWing.
