Mom Power

What is Mom Power?
Mom Power was developed by faculty at Michigan Medicine's Department of Psychiatry and has been brought to Washtenaw County families through a grant from Michigan Medicine's Community Health Services.

Mom Power is an evidence-based program that supports families who are facing adversity and stress through the challenges of caring for young children, offering a strengths-based, nurturing approach to promoting resilience in parents and children. The Mom Power multifamily group provides a safe, trusting, and nurturing environment that allows families to learn and practice new skills. The 13-session group focuses on increasing parenting skills, connecting mothers to other mothers, connecting mothers to local resources, supporting mothers in using self-care skills, and supporting relationships between mothers and their young children.

Children attend Mom Power groups as well and enjoy 1:1 supervision with U-M students while the moms meet. A meal is also provided at each meeting.

Who is eligible to participate?
Mom Power is intended for people who identify as female, are age 18 or older, and are pregnant or have children age 6 and under. Immigrants, refugees and all who live in Washtenaw County are welcome to attend.

When will they meet?
Our first group will meet on Tuesdays from 1:30-3:45 from May 21 to July 23. There will be no group on July 2. The group will meet in Ypsilanti. A specific location will be determined soon.

For more information on Mom Power, please visit this website. Link to the registration form at bit.ly/mompowersignup.
