Ypsilanti Community Night - January 18th

A few friendly reminders in regards to Lincoln vs Ypsi game night:

Community Vendors that will be present are RAHS, WCC, Gene Butman Ford, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Michigan Works! Southeast, Ann Arbor YMCA, University of Michigan, Corner Health Center, Growing Hope, Ozone House, Women and Men Working for Change, Wolverine Pathways along with Ypsilanti Community Schools!

GOOD EATS Mobile Food Company, LLC will be onsite (outside at athletic entrance) starting at 3:30 p.m. until the end of the evening. Please note there is no re-entry so food will need to be purchased prior to entry of the game. We are allowing his food to brought into the facility.

Cars illegally parked will be towed. No parking in fire lanes or on the grass!!! Overflow parking is available at Shadford Field.

A new child care program opened this summer at the former Chapelle Community School, an elementary school within the Ypsilanti Community Schools District at 111 South Wallace Boulevard, Ypsilanti, MI 48197.

The Collaborative – Ypsilanti YMCA Child Development Center  (CDC) addresses a critical need for excellent quality, affordable child care in eastern Washtenaw County.

The Village Project

Our volunteer trainings begin next week and we are only two weeks away from our planned kick off of 2019 Village Project on Friday, January 25th. 

If you are interested in being a part of our Village, please: 

  1. Complete the Village Project Interest Form 
  2. Complete the attached Volunteer Form (which can be returned via email, or in person to your assigned school or the YCS Administrative Building on Packard)
  3. Sign up for one of the four offered Success Coach Trainings (dates/times below).
  4. Invite friends, colleagues and family (we still need volunteers!), please feel free to forward the Village Project Interest Form to anyone that may want to join in the fun!

The trainings will review general information and goals of the project, who to talk to and where to go in each school, as well as getting to know some of the folks in our Village!

The Breakfast Optimist Club is hosting its Oratorical Contest on Sunday, March 17, 2019.
Our first place winner will receive $500 and the opportunity to win more.

YCS Families and Community Members:

Ypsilanti Community Schools will be closed Monday, January 21, 2019, for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr holiday.  There are a lot of community activities happening on Monday that we encourage our students to participate.  Please see the event listings below.

Superintendent Alena Zachery-Ross accepted the resignation of Ypsilanti Community Middle School Principal Seth Petty.  Principal Petty has been a true asset to the students at Holmes Elementary and YCMS during his tenure with YCS.  Principal Petty has taken a new position at Ferndale Middle School.  Please see the attached letter from Superintendent Zachery-Ross on the resignation and future hiring process.

Ypsilanti Community Schools would like to thank the Board of Education for their dedication to the students, staff, and community during School Board Recognition Month.  Please take a moment to thank our board members for their hard work! 

YCS Community Night is this Friday, January 18, 2019, at Ypsilanti Community High School Grizzly Den during the Girl's and Boy's basketball games against Ypsilanti Lincoln Railsplitters.  Please see detailed information about this event in the Google document

NAAPID Day:

  • Ypsilanti Community Schools is a proud participant in the National African American Parent Involvement Day on Monday, February 11, 2019.  We encourage parents and guardians to visit their student's school on this day.  Students at YCS can participate in the annual poster contest for NAPPID--contest submissions are due January 25, 2019.   Please see attached information about NAAPID Day and NAAPID at Night.

Community Events and Information:

Ypsilanti Community High School presents No Dream Deferred for Black History Month on Wednesday, February 13, 2019.  Join us for an inspiring evening of music, poetry and more.   

Ypsilanti Community Schools and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. present the second annual Challenge for Change Expo Youth Edition on Saturday, February 9, 2019.  Please see flyer for more information. 

A2Y Regional Chamber is accepting applications for the annual E3 Awards and Teacher of the Year.  Please take the time to nominate your favorite educator!

Women and Men Working for Change will have their second annual Totes for Teachers drive and is looking for companies/organizatiosn to help support.  Please see the flyer for information.  This year the focus will be on second-grade teachers in the YCS district.

Ypsilanti Rotary Club is offering scholarships to students living in Ypsilanti, Michigan.  Please see flyer for more details on how to apply.

YCS Transportation Bus Tracker

Durham Transportation has been working to get the Bus Tracker Application up and running for parents to utilize during the school year.  Please find instructions on how to use the tracker and the benefits of the application.  The Transportation Department has tested several random routes and the application was fully functioning.
